Under Eye Filler
The eyes are a focal point of the face, so even minor changes in the skin around the eyes can make a significant impact on your appearance. If you have dark circles or hollowing under the eyes, it can cause you to look older and tired. ICON Dermatology has solutions. We offer undereye filler injections in North Bethesda to rejuvenate your appearance.
If you want to know how dermal fillers can improve the appearance of your undereye area, please call ICON Dermatology & Aesthetics today at (301) 810-3600 for a consultation and examination.
How Does Undereye Filler Work?
A tear trough is a deep crease between the lower eyelid and upper cheek. Deep undereye / tear trough lines can be genetic in young people or can become apparent as a result of aging due to the volume loss of facial tissue. It is seen in men and women. In many cases, it can cast a shadow below your eyes, resulting in a tired appearance.
Undereye filler works by reducing the depth of the tear trough and thereby reducing the appearance of lines or shadows. Softening the contour of this area by placing small amounts of filler gives you a refreshed and rested look. Our board-certified dermatologists have the expertise and experience needed to make the area look natural and beautiful while keeping your eyes safe.
What is Undereye Filler Treatment Like?
Undereye filler treatment is overall a comfortable treatment. Topical numbing cream is applied for approximately 10 minutes beforehand. Our board-certified dermatologists primarily use cannulas but may also use needles to place the filler. Patients experience little to no discomfort during the injection process.

Undereye Filler Options
At ICON Dermatology & Aesthetics, we offer all the latest and most advanced dermal fillers, so that we can provide you with a range of options to ensure you can achieve the appearance you want.
Our board-certified dermatologists only use fillers that have been proven safe for tear trough injections. In most cases, our physicians may treat the undereye using a cannula to minimize swelling and bruising, allowing for an easier recovery.
Recovery After Under Eye Injections
The under eye is a sensitive area of the face, and while our physicians use advanced injection techniques to minimize bruising and swelling, you may still experience these side effects. Do not be alarmed if there is some swelling and redness around the eyes following the treatment. Most normal activities can be resumed but patients may want to relax for the remainder of the day and should avoid exercise for 24 hours.
If you do experience some minor bruising, we recommend the use of OcuMend Hydrogel Pads which you can purchase in-office or from our online store. You can also cover bruising by applying makeup. Because of the possibility of bruising and swelling, we do not recommend having undereye filler immediately before a big event. Give yourself time for healing to make sure you look your absolute best.
Am I a Candidate for Undereye Filler?
You might be an ideal candidate for tear trough filler if you:
have mild to moderate hollowing under the eyes
have healthy, thick skin
have realistic expectations
understand the treatment is temporary
are physically healthy
Alternatively, you may not be a good candidate if:
your skin is very thin
you have excess skin beneath the eyes
your tear troughs are very deep
you have excess fat under your eyes
you have an active skin infection in the area
you have a medical condition that increases your risk of complications
you have very dark circles
Alternative Treatment Options
Not all patients are candidates for undereye filler. And depending on the concern, other treatments may be better suited for you. For optimal results, a combination of treatments may be necessary. Some additional treatments that are used to the eye area include:
Neurotoxin
Virtue RF Microneedling
Erbium or Fraxel Laser
Subnovii Plasma Pen
Sofwave
Blepharoplasty (eye surgery)
