HOW DOES SUBNOVII WORK?
Subnovii Plasma Pen technology targets deep-set creases, areas of loose skin, as well as scars and small lesions by heating the skin with a small electrical charge. The tip of the Subnovii device never actually touches the skin but it’s the power of molecular physics that gives this treatment its magic. It uses the voltage in the air between its tip and the natural gasses lying on the skin’s surface to form a plasma charge.
The emitted energy instantly targets a precise spot and lightly ablates the surface of the skin. A sealed wound is created as a heat shock is delivered to the tissue below. This heat shock activates fibroblast activity within the dermis thereby stimulating collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid formation.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR SUBNOVII?
Most patients will be a candidate for this procedure, however, some skin types may be at risk of post-procedure pigmentation issues. Our board-certified dermatologists will review all of this during your consultation and recommend the appropriate procedure for your skin type.
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY SUBNOVII PLASMA PEN TREATMENT?
We ask that you avoid sun exposure at least two weeks prior to treatment and discontinue products that may increase skin sensitivity such as retinols and acids one week prior.
WHAT IS A SUBNOVII TREATMENT LIKE?
Roughly 45 minutes after a topical numbing cream is applied, the Subnovii handheld tool is slowly passed over the treatment area, hovering just above your skin. Small pulses of energy create tiny wounds in the skin, leaving behind small polka dot-like scabs (also known as “carbon crusts”) that fall off in roughly 5-10 days. You may feel some warmth in the area; however, the treatment is fairly comfortable and very tolerable. Some mild swelling can be expected in the area immediately after treatment and may last for a few days.
DOES SUBNOVII PLASMA PEN TREATMENT HURT?
Plasma resurfacing with the Subnovii pen is performed under local anesthesia. During the treatment, the pen delivers plasma energy to the skin. The pain associated with the Plasma Pen Skin Tightening treatment is mild to moderate. With the use of topical anesthetics, you will feel little to no discomfort. Additional anesthesia can be provided when indicated.
WHAT WILL MY SKIN LOOK LIKE AFTER AFTER SUBNOVII PLASMA PEN TREATMENT?
Because the Subnovii Plasma Pen creates an instant wound on the skin, small scabs will form that can take 5-10 days to fall off. The scabs are a natural and protective barrier to the magic taking place below.
Because the treatment area is immediately sealed, there is a very low risk of side effects but the skin may feel tight and itchy as the area heals. Once the scabs fall off, the skin beneath may look pink. This is renewed skin and any redness should progressively fade.
WHAT IS SUBNOVII RECOVERY LIKE?
There will be some scabbing that develops in the treatment and care must be taken to protect the healing skin. You can expect the scabs to heal and fall off within five to ten days. It is critical to not pick at the scabs while healing. By taking care not to pick, touch, or irritate the healing skin, you can ensure the best results possible and speed your healing time. As your skin heals it will begin to produce higher amounts of collagen and elastin, which will improve the firmness and texture of your skin, improving as the weeks pass following your treatment.
IS THERE DOWNTIME WITH SUBNOVII PLASMA PEN TREATMENT?
While the skin heals, you may experience redness, swelling, flaking, and scabbing. Depending on the area treated, swelling may be more pronounced the day following Subnovii treatment. This is especially common around the eyes. Many people have reported that their swelling is worse in the mornings and tends to diminish throughout the day. The first morning after Plasma Pen treatment, swelling can be significant enough to keep you from opening your eyes fully. This is not a cause for alarm. The swelling may also spread to areas around that which has been treated. This side effect typically peaks within 48 hours and then subsides relatively quickly. In addition to the swelling, you may notice itching or a feeling of tightness in the treatment area. Over-the-counter medication may be used to decrease post-treatment discomfort. We recommend no makeup to the area while scabs are present.
WHAT POST-CARE STEPS ARE REQUIRED?
Every patient will receive specially formulated post-care products and instructions to keep the area dry to help with the healing process. It is imperative to follow the recommended post-care protocol. It is important to use sun protection long after treatment and incorporate this into your daily skincare routine.
HOW SOON WILL I SEE RESULTS OF SUBNOVII PLASMA PEN TREATMENT?
It is important to keep in mind the best results may take some time to see. While you may experience some initial results shortly after treatment, the best results will develop over time as your body responds to the stimulation for new collagen production and rejuvenated tissues. Results are typically seen within 3 months but will ultimately vary for each person and the concerns addressed.

WHAT IS PLASMA? I THOUGHT IT HAD TO DO WITH BLOOD?

This plasma is actually the fourth state of matter. The first 3 being gas, liquid, and solid. Plasma is similar to a gas but conducts electricity.
