Skin Cancer
Am I at risk for skin cancer?
Age, personal history or family history of skin cancer, and other specific conditions in your personal past medical history all combine to dictate your non-modifiable risk for the development of skin cancer. You can reduce your risk by limiting your exposure to UV radiation in the form of sunlight and tanning beds.
Schedule an appointment with a dermatologist at ICON. At that visit, they will discuss your risk factors and perform an examination of your skin. From there, problematic lesions will be identified, an accurate diagnosis will be made, and an appropriate treatment plan will be initiated. Follow-up frequency will be determined on based on your unique history and exam findings.
What if I notice a spot that concerns me?
If you notice a spot changing in size, shape, or color; or, if you notice a new growth or a sore that doesn’t heal, these may be causes for concern. Also, if you notice any spots that are different from the others, or if any of these spots are changing, itching or bleeding, please schedule an appointment.
If skin cancer is suspected, a biopsy may be performed to establish the correct diagnosis and determine appropriate treatment.
Skin cancer can be highly curable when detected early and treated properly.
What are my skin cancer treatment options?
The preferred treatment for your skin cancer depends on the type, size, and location of the cancer.
Treatment options include surgical excisions, electrodessication and curettage, cryotherapy, or topical medication.
If your skin cancer requires more advanced surgical treatment, you will be referred to a dermatologic surgeon trained to provide you with the most appropriate care.
