Rosacea
Rosacea is a common skin disorder that typically presents as facial redness. Intermittent flushing can become chronic over time and lead to prominent blood vessels (telangiectasias) on the cheeks, chin, and nose. Additional symptoms can include swelling, acne-like breakouts, thickening of the skin and swollen, red and irritated eyes. Most patients also report skin hypersensitivity.
The specific cause of rosacea is not known. It is thought to be due to a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Common triggers include spicy food, alcohol, sun exposure, temperature extremes, exercise, and stress.
While there is no cure for rosacea, treatment can help reduce the signs and symptoms. Treatment options include topical medications, oral medications, chemical peels, vascular laser treatments, and IPL laser treatments.
